Travel

June 1999 - London, Amsterdam and Budapest
For about three weeks, my sister Debbie and I traveled around Europe. We flew in to London where I spent several days walking to all of the traditional tourist sites as well as taking in all of the Girl Guide historic places. I took a guided walking tour as well, to see some hidden treasures. Then it was off to Amsterdam for drugs and porn. All the natives rode old black bicycles, but we rested our feet and took the unofficial Circle Tram tour. After a long ride on the train, with a layover in Frankfurt (where we saw Roman baths) we arrived in Budapest. We got to see all the places my dad remembered from his childhood, even though they all had new non-Communist names. The grocery stores were definitely highlights of every country, with soft cheeses and crusty bread and weird meats and amazing chocolates.
July 1999 - Backpacking in the Sierras
We started at 8000' and hiked up to about 9000'. High enough for snow at the end of July. We took the long way towards Wood Lake, stopping for some rock climbing. When we got there we used garbage bags to sled down the mountain snow. Lake Tahoe was visible in the distance. Flowers were just starting to be plentiful. Plenty of laughter could be heard during the cursed evening bear-bagging (no really, we know what we're doing). There was a fabulous sunset followed by star gazing. Cassiopia, Scorpio and the Milky Way were clear and bright.
August 1999 - Tijuana, Mexico
May 2001 - Hopland Women's Music Festival
May 2001 - Solo Backpacking at Henry Coe S.P.
October 2001 - Motorcyle trip to Oregon
Jim and I rode two up on his BMW R1150GS to Takilma, Oregon where we slept in a treehouse. We stayed in the Treezebo, about 37' off the ground. It swayed in the wind, and was accesible by a 90' bridge. The stars and coyotes at night, and the views along the coasts and in the wooded mountains were breathtaking. At a stop in Benbow, we ate flavoured creme brulees, a Valrhona chocolate torte, duck, venison, oysters... mm!
November 2001 - Austin, Texas
Trip details and photos coming soon!
February 2002 - Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah
Went to snowboarding, short track speed skating, and women's hockey. Trip details coming soon. Some photos are up.

Next? Maybe Japan, Alaska, or an NPR roadtrip to WBEZ, WBUR, WHYY...
